Connecting Yoga and Shamanism
I want to take this brief moment to share with you about how the practice of shamanism and yoga go really well together. Yoga is a way to move energy to unite with the universal connection between all beings, while shamanism is a path to explore how the individual fits into that tapestry.
Using the image of a tree, yoga is moving from the trunk of the tree upwards in connection with the branches and the leaves of the divine. Shamanism is about connecting the imagination with the elements of nature and our dreams to move down through the roots of our being to unite with what is in our unconscious mind. Because of societal conditions and the world we’re born into, it’s really hard to connect with the unconscious layer of our being. Through drumming and other practices, shamanism helps us connect with what’s going on in our unconscious realm, our dream landscape.
When we unite with that, we find power, potential, and potency within us, discovering that we may want to live our life differently than we’ve been conditioned. The changes that need to be made in order to do so can be very slight and subtle. It doesn’t have to be a drastic. This change of perspective and way of living is very attainable. Once we get in touch with our soul’s story, that infuses us with energy. That’s the energy needed from the roots to move up the spine, so that we can attain those states of samadhi and bliss that yoga talks about.
Thank you for taking this brief moment to learn a little bit about how shamanism and yoga can support each other! I help people understand themselves through both of those lenses. If you’re curious and would like to book a session with me, please send me a message!
