Psychedelics, EDM, & God
Over the last few months, I became really interested in the current use of psychedelic medicines as they are on their way to becoming mainstream. Although still not federally legal, Psychedelic assisted therapy is having incredible results and is becoming a highly sought after field in the mental health world. I also want to note that psychedelics are not for everybody and if you would like more information on their safe usage, please take a look in the captions below for links on this subject matter.
Now I feel very fortune because I discovered Zen, yoga, and shamanism in my early twenties and have been able to use those methodologies to understand my mind, never having to resort on drugs as a way to escape suffering. In my mid thirties I did start working with psychoactive Plant medicines like Ayahuasca and San Pedro at a number of ceremonies with shamans from South America, which yielded amazing results and impacted my spiritual path greatly, but I never experienced psychedelics out in the world at parties! Well this year I was called by Spirit to use psilocybin, LSD, and MDMA at raves, concerts and music festivals as a pathway for deeper self-understanding and creative expression. I was being called to connect with spirit in all realms, outside traditional spaces for spiritual practice like yoga studios, temples and retreat centers, for there is nowhere that God does not exist. If that meant diving into hell, delusion, darkness, and pain for a period of time then I was all in, for that is where the best lessons are and where people need my help the most. Although I am not one to use psychedelics on a regular basis, I do find their occasional use very helpful as a means to break conditioned patterns, not in alignment with my highest truth.
I am also of firm belief that psychedelics are the catalyst for initiation, but not the full initiation itself. The human system is a powerful, organic computer equipped with programing already imbedded in our DNA, designed to manufacture all the sustained bliss and joy that we need. Psychedelics are merely tools to reveal what the human potential is naturally capable of. Therefore, after a psychedelic experience, I feel it is my divine duty to recreate the reality that was revealed on the trip through the ardor of my spiritual practices.
There are so many stories I could share with you from the past few months, but I’m going to go right to the most intense. It was this four day, deep bass Electronic Music festival in Tennessee called, Sound Haven. The initial reason that brought me down there was to lead a Power Spirit Animal Retrieval Ceremony, which did go amazing, but that’s also another story! When I arrived, the entire festival grounds were just flooded with these dark undertones of incessant, thumping bass! Honestly, I enjoyed one night of dancing to this stuff, but after that first night, seeing that my ceremony wasn’t to be held until the last day, I was in a panic. At the time I didn’t really believe this style of music was for me and I was overwhelmed, thinking, how am I going to survive three days of this shit?!” So I did a little meditation to calm myself down and eventually the voice of my higher self kicked in, reminding me that shit is the best fertilizer, so let’s hang on and see what grows.
And I’m very glad I listened to that inner voice because I ended up growing a lot. Now that genre of music known as “Experimental Deep Bass” is flat out one of my favorites. I will never ever refer to it as shit ever again. The whole festival ended up being a four day informal ceremony leading to massive transformation, revealing the spiritual path that is helping me grow into the man I am supposed to be. When we can put down our likes and dislikes, boldly stepping into territories of the unknown, this is where we truly find God. And that’s exactly what I did.
Dancing to this style of music under the influence of either MDMA or psilocybin helped me discover an earthen, primal essence of my nature, opening a portal to an alternate, but extremely familiar realm where the voice of God spoke to me through waves of bass, revealing hidden truths about humanity’s purpose and my individual life path.
Yup. I was deep in it! If I were boil the compendium of these messages into one central truth, it’s that the source of the universe, otherwise known as God, loves us more than we can ever imagine. This force is so immense, it’s beyond our conception, possessing a fierce thirst to discover who it is by vibrating and radiating through us, with no attachment to good or bad. In order to expand into new territories of light, it has to create new realms of darkness to support that light. That is why seemingly good and bad things keep happening to us and the whole world. More importantly, we have to realize that this expanding force and our selves are one and the same. We are creating all the light. We are creating all the darkness, all the pain, all the pleasure, all the hate, but most importantly all the love.
When a powerful message like this vibrates through my whole being during a psychedelic state, the pitfall comes afterwards. The path to rediscover these messages without the guidance of medicine is where true initiation begins and it is quite a challenge, for at this stage, the spiritual work is being done in the dimension of our waking, conscious reality, which operates under the laws of duality. Simply put, “What goes up must come down.”
I returned home at the end of July and entered one of the deepest depressions of my life. I had to let aspects of my old self die in order for this Deep Bass God connection to live and breathe in the skin of the new self that wanted to emerge. I recently came across an interview with Jim Carey where he describes depression as “deep rest”. It is a time where we need to stop everything, allowing ourselves to fully rest as a way to let the character we’ve been playing die. This character, although once a valid expression of who we were, no longer resembles who we’re meant to be today. Like a snake shedding its skin we have to lie on the ground and through natural process just squirm out of it.
And squirm I did! My depression felt like an impenetrable womb of sadness, sloth and apathy. I literally wanted to die, which made sense because parts of my being were literally dying! My life-force was shedding all the energetic weight that no longer served me, so I could be reborn. After about a month of this shit, one morning I woke up clearly knowing, “Today is the day! This is the day for rebirth. It’s time to shed this skin!” And yeah, just like birthing a child, I had to use a lot of force to get my ass out of bed and go outside before daybreak to engage in an intuitive, self-created ceremony incorporating dance, breathwork, chanting, and meditation. This ceremony reconnected me with the earth, my talent and true purpose, but most importantly that sense of God I had experienced down in Tennessee.
After performing the outdoor portion of the ritual, I bolted directly inside, sat down at my computer, turned on a playlist of deep bass dubstep and began to write. Words started to flow and I slithered my way into the true archetype I’m meant to be fulfilling at this juncture of life, “The Poet King.” You will begin to see a lot more of him, I assure you! Currently I am collaborating with an artist to publish a book that will come out in 2024 and I am incorporating poetry into many of my events.
I feel the piece I wrote on this particular day is one of best ever. Through the act of creative ritual, music, and poetry I was able to access that same profound connection with spirit I did at the festival. The only difference being, it was through my own will-force and determination and not that of the psychedelic guiding the experience. Coming to God on our own terms is our divine destiny and that’s exactly what I’m here to help people do.
But make no mistake, I will never dismiss the importance of psychedelic medicines. They possess the ability to reveal the aspirations of the human soul. The soul’s true intent can be difficult to discover in everyday life, because we are living in a material-obsessed society. This obsession with form, unfortunately confounds the deep formless wisdom of the soul, leading to confusion, stress and anxiety.
The indigenous cultures that existed before our modern world used psychedelic plant medicines extensively and they did not have any of the numerous mental health issues we are now facing.
It’s time we release the collective, conditioned distain for psychoactive substances, and embrace a new paradigm of thought, whereby the combined use of psychedelics with therapy and ancient spiritual practices can lead towards the creation of world centered around love and support.
Thank you so much for joining me on this beautiful journey of spiritual awakening. Walking this path is a collaborative one, so thank you!
Peace and love,
Ben
